Allegany County Museum Hosts Annual Antique Discovery Show May 10th

Cumberland – An annual event is coming up that always proves to be very popular with antique collectors and regular folks alike. The Annual Antique Discovery Show at the Allegany County Museum will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008 between 10:00AM and 12:00PM. Usually, the closing time is extended for those still waiting to have their items appraised. Refreshments will be served.

People from the local community are urged to bring their items to the Show. Identification and appraisal is by Weschler’s of Washington, DC. Items welcomed are antiques, collectibles, furniture, lighting fixtures, decorative arts, folk art, paintings, photographs, coins, jewelry, watches, silverware, glassware, weaponry and militaria, textiles, Native American objects, Asian objects, and books, etc.

“People are often surprised at the value their items may have,” says Gary Bartik, president of the Museum. “The appraisers will give the items their approximate value, on the spot.”

“Often, people need to make arrangements and families need to coordinate what they want to bring for appraisal,” Bartik added. “So, check your attic, open that old chest, go through those boxes in the garage, gather up those items you have been curious about and bring them down to the Museum on Baltimore Street on Saturday, May 10th.”

The Annual Antique Discovery Show is also an excellent time to make donations and gifts to the Allegany County Museum.

Adam A. Weschler & Son, Inc., a prominent East Coast appraisal and auction firm, has been an auction tradition in the Nation's capital since Adam Weschler opened a gallery in 1890.
